How can I stop notifications from a specific contact?

Post by ashjee »

Whatsapp provides a feature called Mute Notifications to achieve this.

If any message is received on your Whatsapp a notification is received. It is indeed a brilliant feature for normal messages but in case of group messages, it could lead to constant notifications arriving every few seconds.

One can either turn notifications off for Whatsapp -- this means that any message that arrives will not be notified and you have to open the messenger everytime to check for new messages. This could mean that we might miss out on timely updates.

Mute can be done in either of the following ways:

1) Just right click on any user chat and you can find a few options -- "Mute Notifications" is one of them. Just select it.
2) Open the user profile and you can see "Mute Notifications". Just check that box.

Now you can select to Mute the Notifications for 8 hours / 1 week / Always - depending on how you long need it.
Once this is done you can see this particular chat marked with a loudspeaker-off icon. You will no longer receive notifications for any message that arrives from this particular contact.

This is not only applicable for a single contact, but for a group as well. :ugeek:

To start receiving Notifications, again go to the chat or the contact and select Unmute.
